Strawberry Shortcake Twinkie Surprise

Prepare strawberries by freezing them. Whole, sliced, or frozen will do. However, the secret to a perfect strawberry for strawberry shortcake is freezing the strawberries first. Then by mashing them to let the juices free. I use a fork but whatever tickles your fancy…

Add about a quarter cup of sugar to the strawberries, (add less for a low sugar diet or sugar substitute as needed) either before or after freezing them. Walmart has a pre- packaged container of strawberries with or without sugar added in the frozen food section if you’re lazy like me. Hint: JUST AS GOOD!

Either way, mash the strawberry mixture immediately after taking them out of the freezer. At anytime during this process, open a package of twinkies (2 twinkies) for one serving. You can buy it by the box for more servings or use just one Twinkie for a lower fat/sugar diet.

Once the strawberry mixture is ready, simply spoon it over the Twinkies and finish it off with some whipped cream. I prefer the store bought whipped cream that comes in a can. Yes the lazy mans whipped cream that is forced out of a can by gas and easily applied. However, you may use home made whipped cream, Cool Whip or any other whipped cream/ topping recipe or alternative you may have.

Alternatives for the regular Twinkie : Twinkies w/ strawberry cream, home made biscuits w/without sugar/ sponge cake/ store bought sponge cake dessert cups. The store bought sponge cake dessert cups are the ones I grew up with and are my absolute favorite and I recommend them above all others. However, you can decide after trying this recipe…
